School Board Member Training
Fiscal Responsibility and Accountability

Why These Classes are Important

The responsibility for the accountability, integrity, oversight, and safety of school district resources rests with the Board of Education. Board members need to understand their legal responsibilities, and what is happening in their district, what is needed, and what can be done to meet their fiscal responsibilities. They must direct the decisions needed to maintain the fiscal health of their school district. This class is an introduction to these responsibilities.

Board members and their agents (Board Officers and appointees) must act to protect the district’s resources from mismanagement and/or fraud. and potential fiscal instability. The reputation and financial health of the school district rest on good Board of Education fiscal decisions and the knowledge of individual Board members.
