J. Richard Boyes, Ed.D., Superintendent, Southhampton Union Free Schools, and Long Island Regional Program Administrator, Educational Leadership Institute (ELI), SUNY Oswego
Rich Boyes is Superintendent of the Southampton Union Free School District. Dr. Boyes has 40 years’ experience in education, including 36 years in various administrative roles. He has taught educational leadership and school business management courses for SUNY Oswego, SUNY Brockport, St. John Fisher College, and the University of Rochester. Rich is familiar with the diverse needs and cultures of upstate and Long Island school districts from academic, political, and economic perspectives. Rich is Long Island Regional Program Administrator for the Educational Leadership Institute, SUNY Oswego. He administers a variety of professional development programs for central office administrators and personnel on Long Island.

Roberta Gerold, Ed.D., Superintendent, Middle Country Central Schools
Roberta Gerold has been Superintendent of Schools of the Middle Country Central School District since 2006. From 2001 to 2006 Dr. Gerold served as Superintendent of the Farmingdale Union Free School District. Prior to 2001 she was Superintendent of Schools in the Miller Place UFSD, an Assistant Superintendent in West Babylon UFSD and Levittown UFSD, Regional Associate for the NYSED, and the Special Education Director for the Central Moriches UFSD. Dr. Gerold began her career as a special education teacher. Roberta is an adjunct associate professor at Dowling College. She is Past-President of the Board of Directors of SCOPE, and Vice President of the Suffolk County School Superintendent's Association. Dr. Gerold has received numerous recognitions, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Nassau/Suffolk School Boards Association for her advocacy of public education.
Allan Gerstenlauer, Ed.D., Superintendent, Longwood Central SchoolsAllan Gerstenlauer has served as the Superintendent of the Longwood School District since 2005. Located in central Suffolk County, Long Island, the Longwwod district enrolls a diverse population of approximately 9,300 students. Dr. Gerstenlauer has been with the Longwood Schools most of his career, having taught secondary social studies before moving into administration. Prior to his appointment as Superintendent, he was the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Learning and had experience in building and district level administrative positions. Allan currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Suffolk County School Superintendents Association, SCOPE, and Section XI Athletics. Dr. Gerstenlauer has presented at several workshops and conferences for the school boards associations.
John Gratto, Ed.D., Superintendent, Sag Harbor Union Free Schools
John Gratto has been Superintendent of the Sag Harbor Union Free Schools since July 2008. After entering the superintendency at age 31, Dr. Gratto has been a Superintendent of Schools for 23 years--at Colton-Pierrepont CSD, AuSable Valley CSD, Brittonkill CSD, and Ballston CSD--school districts ranging from 450 to 4,500 students. In addition, he worked as a K-12 principal for five years. Dr. Gratto brings a perspective from school districts throughout New York State in both rural and suburban communities. John has served The Council (NYSCOSS) as a member of the House of Delegates and on the NY Commissioner's Advisory Council, and currently represents the Suffolk County superintendents as a member of the House of Deligates. Dr. Gratto earned his doctorate in Education Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University. At the university level he as taught Labor Relations & Collective Bargaining, School District Leadership, and School Law.
Alan B. Groveman, Ed.D., Superintendent, Connetquot Central Schools
Alan Groveman has been the Superintendent of the Connetquot School District in Suffolk County since 2004. Dr. Groveman has previously served in various other districts including Plainview-Old Bethpage CSD and Levittown UFSD as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Business and Instruction. Prior to that, he has served as a Director of Pupil Personnel and Special Education, School Psychologist and Dean of Students. Dr. Groveman is the current President of the SCSSA. He has consulted on a number of national Federal projects serving students with severe disabilities and is on the Suffolk County Vocational Education and Extension Board. He is an ASBO Registered Business Official and a member of the SBMW planning team. In his spare time, he serves with his local Fire Department and Ambulance Corp as well as the Suffolk County Urban Search and Rescue team.

Thomas M. Volz, Esq., School Attorney
Tom Volz, is the principal of the Law Offices of Thomas M. Volz, PLLC, in Smithown, New York. Mr. Volz has represented public school Boards of Education since 1991. As a School Attorney and Counselor of Law, he and his firm advise superintendents and boards of education regarding all aspects of general and labor counsel. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Association of School Attorneys, and will serve as President in 2012. Mr. Volz has taught the School Law course at Stony Brook University to aspiring administrators. He is a member of the New York State and Suffolk County Bar Associations; the Suffolk County Bar Association Education Law Committee; and the Board of Directors for the St. John’s University School of Law Center for Labor and Employment Law.
Judith A. Wilansky, Ed.D., Superintendent, Cold Springs Harbor Central Schools
Judy Wilansky was appointed Superintendent of the Cold Spring Harbor Central School District in 2008. She has been with Cold Spring Harbor CSD since 2000 and has held various potions in the central office including: Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent of Personnel and Instructional Services, and Deputy Superintendent. Previously, she worked in the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools for seventeen years as a Speech Language Pathologist, Staff Developer, and District Chairperson for Special Education. Dr. Wilansky earned her B.A. in Communication Arts and Sciences and M.A. in Speech Pathology from Queens College of the C.U.N.Y., a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from Hofstra University, and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Technology from Dowling College.ADMINISTRATION

Jim Merrins is Executive Program Administrator of the Educational Leadership Institute, SUNY Oswego, School of Education. He administers the statewide Transition to Superintendency Program and School Fiscal Training and Support Program (since 2004, in four regions). Jim administers numerous workshops for superintendents and senior school administrators across New York State. Jim has over 38 years experience in school administration, 16 years as a Superintendent of Schools in Fredonia and Honeoye, New York. Dr. Merrins is also NYS certified as a School Business Administrator. To help superintendents and senior school administrators across New York State, he developed and manages the web site www.SuperintendentOfSchools.com with the popular resource centers - Preparing for the Superintendency Toolbox, The New Superintendent's Toolbox, and The Superintendent’s File Cabinet.
